On this week’s Dear Katie, I was asked: “How do I stop feeling behind when I see other firms growing faster?”

This is a question that really hits home with me. You go on LinkedIn, and you see your competitors winning:

  • Launching new offers
  • Sharing client wins
  • Announcing new hires

It’s natural to see these types of wins and think to yourself, What am I doing wrong? Why am I not growing this fast?

The only noise in your inbox is crickets.

Your pipeline? Dry.

You can do great work, but that doesn’t mean that it’s translating into the growth that you had hoped to see by now.

There are a lot of underrated ways to grow your firm, but before you start executing growth strategies, you need to dig deeper.

Why isn’t your firm growing? Are you making offers?

I’ll explain everything below so that you can start seeing the progress you deserve and be the one who shares their wins on LinkedIn.

Why Your Firm Isn’t Growing as Fast as You Want

Before you do anything else, I want you to ask yourself this important question:

  • When was the last time you actually made an offer?

I’m not talking about a blog post, a tip or a reel. I’m talking about an actual offer (and not just a generic “Hey, I offer accounting!”).

I always tell clients to avoid pitching generic “monthly CAS services” or things of that nature.

Instead, make a no-brainer offer, like:

  • “$497 Financial Systems Review. We’ll find at least $5,000 in hidden inefficiencies or missed savings, or it’s free. We’re only offering 5 of these until X date.”

Offers like these get attention and make it easy for people to say “yes.”

Need help creating an offer? Check out my post here.

So many accountants say they want more clients. But here’s the problem:

  • They haven’t invited anyone to work with them in weeks (sometimes months)

The truth is that people don’t take action unless you give them something to act on.

And when you make an offer, remember that:

  • You’re not annoying
  • You’re not being too salesy

You’re a business owner.

It’s your job to remind people how you help and make it super easy for them to say “yes.”

Challenge Yourself: Make the Offer

Today, I’m asking you to challenge yourself.

  • Post your offer
  • Send that follow-up email
  • Tell people how to work with you clearly and confidently

Once you’ve made your offer and you’re taking actions that align with your goal, it’s time to shift your mindset.

When you think about those firms that are growing, remember that you’re only seeing the highlight reel.

You’re not seeing the firm that’s:

  • Burning through its cash to grow
  • Drowning in low-margin work to keep the team busy
  • Only holding it together because one partner is secretly working nights

And that “overnight success” you think you’re seeing? That’s not usually the real story. Success takes years of trial and error that you never saw.

So, get out there and make your offers. Know that you’re not behind. In fact, your pace is exactly right.

Just take a breath, focus on what’s in front of you and put in the work.

And, that’s a wrap on this Dear Katie question.

Until next time, cheers to your success!
