On this week’s Dear Katie, I had an unusual question: I’m not sure if this is a topic you’d cover here, but if so – how do you create so much content, run a business, attend conferences, and I also know that you’re a parent. It seems like a lot to balance.

While I’m not perfect, I’ve spent a lot of time dialing in my schedule over the years to do my best to do it all.

I’ve actually covered this really well in these two blogs:

  1. How to Use Social Media Intentionally
  2. How to Stay Inspired and Consistent as a Creator

But for this question about how to create content and run a business, it’s important that I zoom out on how I run my days and weeks to be the best me possible.

(Note. I’m batching this before I have a new baby – so in this exact season of life, I probably have a different schedule and would LOL at this. However, what I share below is what is typical for me in a non-newborn stage)

I am habitual day to day, and while this may work for me, it might not work for you.

I find that, a lot of the time, people share their schedules, and it’s not realistic for me at all. If mine isn’t perfect for you – and it won’t be – hopefully you can take away a few points from what I’m going to share below.

My Daily Schedule

Without further ado, my schedule below is a typical day for me when I’m not expecting a newborn.

Morning

  • Wake up: I get up early – around 4:30 (you definitely do NOT need to get up this early).
  • I’ll review some content for clients and get dressed for the day.
  • Next, I’ll eat breakfast and head off to the gym.
  • At the gym, I listen to something educational. This is my learning time.
  • After the gym, I enjoy some family time before starting work.
  • From 9-12 AM, I start my first work block.

Midday

  • From 12-1 PM, I eat lunch and spend time with my kids. Then, I’ll go for a walk outside.

Afternoon

  • From 1-4 PM, I’m in full work mode.

Evening

  • After 4 PM, I’m mom-ing. I go to the park, cook dinner for my family and take an evening walk every night.
  • If there are any loose ends that need to be tied up, I’ll take care of it afterward. It’s important to me that I feel as if I gave quality attention to my family during the day and not just work.
  • Because I get up so early, I’m usually asleep on work nights by 9 PM. Yes, I’m a grandma and like going to bed that early – but sleep is important!

My Weekly Habits

Of course, along with my daily schedule, I have a few weekly habits that help me stay on track.

  • I reserve Tuesday-Thursday for recurring client calls.
  • On Mondays, I focus on team calls and other calls, such as podcast interviews and so forth.
  • Friday is reserved for calls that get canceled for the week, but I also spend time tying up loose ends from that week. Additionally, I look at what is coming up for the following week.
  • Saturday and Sunday: I am not going to lie and say that I never work on weekends, because I do. However, any work time on the weekends is typically done early in the morning hours or while my daughter takes a 2-hour afternoon nap.

Reserving certain days of the week for specific tasks helps keep everything organized. You can easily take this same approach with whatever weekly tasks you perform.

And, that’s a wrap on this Dear Katie question.
