13 – 25 Marketing Ideas for Accounting Firms
13. Invest in Video Marketing
When it comes to buying products or services, video can be quite convincing. In fact, Wyzowl’s State of Video Marketing Survey found that:
- 86% of businesses use video marketing
- 87% of marketers say video delivers a positive ROI
- 86% of marketers say video is effective for generating leads
Video should be a part of every accounting firm’s content strategy. Why? Because video content is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your expertise and build trust with your audience as they get to know you.
Focus on questions or topics your audience is interested in to draw in more views.
14. Host Webinars
Hosting a webinar is another great opportunity to share your knowledge, build trust, and establish authority. Like with video content, webinars need to be focused on topics or questions that your audience is already searching for. In many cases, these are pain points that your audience really wants to overcome, and your webinar offers some hope that you have the solution they need.
Webinars can generate leads in a few ways:
- Access to the event can be granted to those who fill out your lead form.
- Your webinar can be that trust generating event that helps someone take the next step with you, such as booking a free consultation.
Use your social media accounts, email list, and website to promote your webinars.
15. Give Back to the Community or Invest in a Charity
Your firm may have an online presence and do much of its work through virtual channels, but at the end of the day, you’re still a local business. When you support and give back to the local community, you appeal to your neighbors and bolster your firm’s image.
However, if you’re a firm that only works with clients in other states, consider investing in a charity. The goal is to give back. And there are a few ways to do this:
- Sponsor a local fundraiser
- Rent a booth at a local event and answer questions or provide advice
- Make donations to good causes
- Create a scholarship program
- Invest in a charity through impact investing
Ideally, you want your initiative to benefit the community while also being relevant to the services that you provide. Maybe you speak at high schools and offer financial advice to seniors ready to enter college. Initiatives such as these reinforce your brand and what you stand for while benefiting your local community.
16. Don’t Forget Offline Marketing
In today’s digital world, firms tend to prioritize online marketing. They forget that offline marketing can still be an effective way to generate leads and build brand awareness.
Try placing brochures or flyers in public places (where you have permission) to help people in the community learn more about your firm and its services. Don’t forget to include your website URL in your offline marketing materials to drive more traffic to your website as well.
Marketing via direct mail is especially beneficial if you offer tax resolution services.
17. Reach Out to the Media
One way to get your firm’s name out there is to reach out to the local media and national media. Volunteer to be a source for financial- and tax-related quotes and comments.
Each time your quote or comment is featured, your name and your firm’s name will be mentioned, too. Along with expanding your reach and building brand awareness, you’re also establishing yourself as an authority and gaining credibility in the eyes of the local and national community.
18. Network in Your Local Community or Niche Community
Networking can help you get referrals and leads while building your firm’s reputation. Look for local or niche networking groups that you can join, such as:
- Your local chamber of commerce
- State accounting networking groups
- Professional associations
- Niche networking groups
- Alumni groups
19. Create a Referral Program
Referral programs generate valuable leads. In fact, referrals are 36 times more valuable than cold calls and four times more valuable than online leads. Why? Because people trust referrals or recommendations from the people they trust.
Incentivizing referrals will benefit your clients while helping generate more valuable leads for your firm. Incentives can include payouts, discounts on your services, or even free services. Make sure that your staff understands how to inform clients about the program, and don’t forget to promote your program on your website and through email campaigns.
20. Host Giveaways
People love freebies. Use this to your advantage by hosting giveaways that generate targeted leads.
Your firm’s giveaway can be anything relating to your services, such as:
- College planning advice
- A tax consultation
- An estate planning consultation
- A business consultation
Promote your giveaway on social media, on your website and through your newsletters. To expand your reach and generate more leads, you can ask participants to share your post on social media as part of the entry rules.
21. Get Involved with Trade Shows and Conferences
Does your firm specialize in certain industries or types of businesses? If so, participating in related trade shows and conferences can help generate more leads, increase brand awareness and establish authority.
A firm that works with lawyers, for example, may attend lawyer centric events and conferences. Firms that work with restaurants may attend restaurant trade shows.
Do more than just attend these events. Set up a booth and connect with people who may need your services.
22. Create Online Courses
Information is valuable. In fact, the goal of a content marketing strategy is to provide valuable information to potential clients to build trust, establish authority and persuade readers to take the next step.
Online courses can work the same way but on a bigger scale. Offer courses on topics that your clients will be interested in, like:
- Tax planning
- Business and profit planning
- Cash flow management
- Setting up accounting technology
- Saving for college
23. Build a Resouces Page
Much like your blog, a resources page can provide visitors with valuable information. Consider linking to:
- Informative blog posts and news articles
- Government resources, like the IRS
- Video content
- Past webinars
- Downloadable content that you offer
- Calculators
24. Start a Podcast
An estimated 120 million people listened to podcasts in 2021. With an audience this big, there’s a good chance that your potential clients are already listening to financial-related podcasts.
Starting your own podcast can help you tap into this vast audience and start building authority. Considering starting with at least one episode a week and go from there. Focus on topics and questions your clients are interested in and consider bringing in other experts as guests to make your episodes even more engaging and informative.
25. Offer Freebies
Offering free tools and templates is another great way to get prospects to fill out your lead form while providing them with something valuable.
Free tools and templates can include:
- Cash flow calculators
- Business planning templates
- Income tax calculators
- Refund estimators
Make sure that your freebies are relevant to your audience and something they will value and use.
